Teradyne Robotics filed a major patent infringement lawsuit against the German subsidiary of JAKA Robotics at the Unified Patent Court in Copenhagen in August, targeting both hardware and software structures that could bar JAKA from 17 EU member states if Teradyne wins. JAKA has publicly pushed back, threatening counter-injunctions for damages to its reputation.

Over the period covering February to October 2026, Teradyne filed a copyright lawsuit in Germany against Elite Robots, successfully securing a preliminary injunction from the Regional Court of Hamburg to block Elite's software and hardware sales in Germany. The dispute ended in a confidential mutual settlement in October.

Valuation

Key Takeaways

  • A significant percentage of the company’s revenue relies on high-intensity AI accelerator and HBM testing. ✔️

  • Growth in DRAM and NAND drive demand for semiconductor testing. ✔️

  • Robotics-oriented subsidiaries (Universal Robots, Mobile Industrial Robots) bring long-term industrial automation upside. ✔️

The company shares trade at a considerable 468.91% premium to our respective fair value estimate.

Risks

  • Historical cyclicality inherent to its respective sector. ❌

  • Significantly large P/E ratio (42.39x). ❌

Sustained Performance & Conclusion

Variables include:

  • Structural growth consistently outpacing the modeled run rate to naturally compress the premium. ⚠️

  • High-margin robotics subsidiaries scaling efficiently enough to offset the hardware cyclicality of its semiconductor segment. ⚠️

  • Maintaining pricing power for AI accelerator testing against potential competitive duplication and input cost shocks. ⚠️

Even with the company’s operational execution in H1 2026 remaining fundamentally strong, a divergence has emerged between this narrative and the realities inherent to its structural valuation. This disconnect stems from the market pricing Teradyne as a hyper-growth, SaaS-adjacent business rather than a cyclical hardware manufacturer. The company’s current revenue is riding on high AI data center deployments, and the generated cash flows cannot mathematically justify the current stock price under realistic discount rates.

The historical limits of hardware operating margins and capital expenditure cycles are seemingly being ignored, creating a dangerous gap between market sentiment and true intrinsic worth. Growth-oriented investors are paying a sizable premium for AI data center exposure. Even a minor industrial disruption—like a regional supply chain shock, akin to the industrial gas shortages seen earlier this year—would shift the risk-reward ratio to the downside and would likely trigger re-ratings.

Because the current valuation sits so high above our proprietary fundamental floor, the potential downside is catastrophic, whereas the upside is capped due to future growth already being priced in.

Teradyne is an excellent, highly capable company. There is a very high probability that if a chip is built by Nvidia, Intel, Qualcomm, or Samsung—it was plugged into a Teradyne testing rig to verify its computing logic, memory speed, and power efficiency before being shipped. Alongside primary competitor Advantest, the company effectively enjoys a global “duopoly“ status in its respective market ecosystem.

Its shares, however, are trading at a deeply unsustainable valuation—meaning that until the current market premium compresses, it can be said that capital allocation, as of yet, carries an unfavorable margin of safety.
