eBay (EBAY) is an American company famous for its provision of a global online marketplace connecting buyers and sellers of new and used goods, with a particularity in specialty goods, collectibles, and fashion items.

Operations

Very recently, the company underwent a restructuring which resulted in the permanent elimination of around 800 corporate roles—6% of its global workforce—aiming for optimization of certain operational layers as well as reallocation of core spending to AI frameworks.

Within 2026 alone, at the time of writing; EBAY has established financial grants and structured mentorship for circular-economy startups by way of its Circular Fashion Fund, expanded its shipping infrastructure in the United States to be more in line with its already existing framework in the UK and Australia, broadened its Authenticity Guarantee to encompass more than 100 American and British fashion brands, and reported particularly strong growth in terms of its GMV and user base—especially on its eBay interactive streaming platform.

Possibly the single most notable facet of its operations so far in the current year has been the completion of its $1.2B all-cash acquisition of the peer-to-peer fashion application Depop Limited, bringing an increase to its number of Gen Z and Millennial users.

Valuation

Dark eBay Inc. valuation table with metrics like EPS, growth rates, last close, fair value, and 28.58% market premium.

Key Takeaways

  • Mostly positive annual earnings since 2019. ✔️

  • Stock has doubled in value over the past 2 years. ✔️

  • Very commendable Earnings Per Share Growth and Book Value Per Share Growth over the projected period. ✔️

  • Currently diversifying and expanding on its core services. ✔️

A valuation gap derived from its growth initiatives and recent acquisition has already been issued by the market. The current premium places the shares just outside the range we typically treat as close to fair value (~25%).

Risks

  • Integration risk following major acquisition. ❌

  • Intense competition from both major and minor players within its respective market environment (Amazon, Walmart, Temu). ❌

  • Negative operating cash flow growth within the projected period. ❌

The combination of large acquisitions, diversifications, competitive frictions, and weaker operating cash-flow trends mix into a set of execution risks that will need to be observed and managed carefully over the upcoming periods.

Sustained Performance & Conclusion

Variables include:

  • Regulatory obligations involving tax reporting and authenticity. ⚠️

  • Conversion of live commerce features into durable growth. ⚠️

  • Management of operating expenses after recent restructuring. ⚠️

Tangible progress on integration and category resilience over a longer term will be particularly important in determining whether current levels and growth prove sustainable.
